The Fifth Sparrow

The Fifth Sparrow (Blog)

Pastor Kurt Henson

As a country boy I’ve eaten: chicken, quail, pheasant, dove, duck, goose, and Cornish hens, but I’ve never been so desperate as to eat a sparrow…

Sparrows are last on the menu when it comes to “foul” culinary.

In Jesus’ day, you could buy 2 sparrows for a penny and 5 sparrows for 2 pennies. They were considered so insignificant the owner threw in the 5th one for free!!!

Perhaps you feel like the 5th sparrow at times.

Insignificant, left out, last picked, the third wheel, overlooked, underappreciated, unloved, not wanted, worthless, less than worthless…….a sparrow.

Any sparrows reading this blog?

Well, take heart… Jesus loves and desires sparrows.

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs on your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” – Luke 12:6-7 (ESV)

Easter is the evidence that, “God so loved the world, He gave His only Son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” – John 3:16 Value is determined by the price one is willing to pay. Jesus loves you and paid the highest price of all for you — His own life.

And just remember little sparrow — you too, were born to FLY!

Soaring in Him,

Pastor Kurt
